This full-day workshop will offer educators in all STEM related disciplines a thorough understanding of the K-12 Maker Movement and how it can strengthen student learning of STEM concepts.
Our keynote speaker, Laura Fleming, author of the book Worlds of Making, is an expert in creating K-12 makerspaces where the 3-dimensional, hands-on learning outlined in the NYS Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) can thrive. Laura will provide an overview of the Maker Movement and how educators can successfully incorporate maker principles into their classrooms and libraries.
Feature presenter, Rick Weinberg, an expert in implementing maker-style instructional practices, will then lead educators through fun and challenging hands-on learning activities that align with the NGSS standards and utilize inquiry, science and engineering skills to solve problems and find solutions.
Participants will leave with concrete, standards-aligned teaching ideas for integrating a variety of STEM based maker tools in their classrooms.
