Communication Items

• From the Library Community-
  • Judy Campanella (Cayuga Community College) sent information high school librarians for teachers and students taking advanced classes at CCC.
  • Jill Hand (Seymour Public Library) sent information about children's programs at the public library.
  • These items can be found in "Resources from the library community" in the Google Team Drive.
• Recent developments in Instructional Support Services (ISS)
  • Additional instructional space was needed at the BOCES. This resulted in many ISS staff members relocating off-campus (1 Eagle Drive) over the summer. SLS remains on campus.
  • Margaret Colella is now coordinating virtual fieldtrips.
• Interlibrary Loan
  • SCOOLS catalog was cleaned up over the summer to reduce duplicate records.
  • If there are things you are not finding in the SCOOLS catalog, please contact SLS.
  • Please respond to requests to all ILL requests as quickly as possible.
  • When sending resources to other schools in our BOCES, send these to the school.
  • When sending resources to schools outside our BOCES, send these to Deb Daloia at BOCES.
  • If you have problems with items not being returned as expected, contact SLS. We will reach out to the borrowers.
• Music Library
  • This is part of the SLS Professional Collection. Please help your music teachers to identify sheet music for their classes.
• Upcoming Professional Development activities
  • Upcoming events include the NYLA (11/7-11/10), NYSCATE (11/17-20),and "Makerspaces in Our Schools" (12/17).
  • We are planning a follow-up workshop with Discovery Education, and a workshop with the Stanford History Education Group (SHEG) in the Spring.
  • This information can be found "Professional Development" in the Google Team Drive.
• SLS Services
  • We support your library catalogs and your resources. Contact us if these are not working as expected or if you would like additional training. We also provide barcode scanners to use with your catalogs.
• Access information to library media resources
  • This information can be found in the Library Resources Management System.
  • It includes everything supported by SLS and ISS, and everything purchased by your school districts.
  • Contact us if you need your account information.
• Purchases (CCD, ebooks)
  • If you have funds available, please make your purchases by the end of January. Contact SLS if you have any questions.
• Orders for next year
  • These will be collected through the Library Resources Management System.
  • Initial orders are due by the end of January. This will allow SLS sufficient time to work with you to ensure the accuracy of everything requested.
• Other items of interest
  • Please take the "Steaming Media Use in Our Schools" survey. This will help me understand how streaming media is used and how we can improve the BOCES streaming media service.
  • We will use Schoology for online discussions and sharing of information about library trends and instructional practices. Contact SLS for the access code.
  • We will use a Google Team Drive to share resources with each other. Contact SLS to be invited to the drive.
  • Twitter users- consider sending out tweets when you attend workshops and conferences. Be sure to add your school' hash tag. It is a great way let your school know about the valuable learning you will bring back to the school.
